Black Lives
(For Nolan)
If I say your name
I conjure up
The retribution I know they all deserve
In a land that promises freedom and Justice
But white supremacy is the only idea preserved
Should I utter your name and admit the hatred
that removed you out of this plane
I give wake to my own broken heart and my wrath
And I know full well who is to blame
Your drowned body
by The council of Judas
that absolve themselves in the same vein
Ignore when we scream
Deny any foul play
Because they don't see Black pain
If I say what I wish in every space I enter
I force myself a truth we must tell
I pull up the pail
filled with no water
and confess what was buried
at the bottom of the Well
